Best Emmy Moment Part 2 – The Lonely Island, Michael Bolton And Akon

There are not enough words for me to tell you how much I enjoyed The Lonely Island medley last night on The Emmy Awards. I think mostly because The Emmy Awards actually allowed them to do an entire medley about three ways, having sex and singing with Michael Bolton. I like that this isn’t your mom’s award show anymore!

Saturday Night Live is finally funny again. Has been for the past few years after coming off a relatively shitty decade (or 2) or so. I’m sure Justin Timberlake is somewhere trying to take credit for this. But one of the main reasons that SNL is so funny is because their musical shorts have become hits in their own right, basically buoyed by Samberg and Timberlake’s ‘D*ck in a Box’ sketch. So The Lonely Island, which consists of SNL’s Adam Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone,  performed a medley of their Emmy nominated songs last night on the show with some help from The Office star Ed Helms (in the Justin Timberlake Role), John Stamos (playing Samberg’s role) and Maya Rudolph, as well as Michael Bolton and Akon who both parody themselves hilariously. The result had me wondering if I was indeed watching the usually stuffy old Emmy Awards or the MTV Music awards.  But I loved it, and I think the audience did too.

There was a little bit of criticism about the content of the medley and that it was too suggestive for TV – whatever. Kids watch worse than that on Degrassi and Gossip Girl so give me a break. I loved it and I might have re-watched it about 5 times already.  How nice was it to finally see The Emmy Awards get funny!

Did you miss it? You can watch it here. What did you think?
