Jessica Simpson gained a lot of weight when she was pregnant with her daughter Maxwell. I mean, Jessica Simpson obviously took advantage of her pregnancy and used it as an excuse to indulge. I can’t blame her for it one bit either. I mean, I spoke about this yesterday when looking at pictures of Anna Faris at 10 days postpartum. I couldn’t imagine being a celebrity and having to watch every single thing that I ate all the time, especially while pregnant. So while the majority of celebrity moms don’t indulge even while pregnant and use their nannies and personal trainers and cooks to snap back into pre-pregnancy shape within weeks of giving birth all while making us regular women feel inferior in the process, there are a few celeb moms who struggle with the post baby weight like most of us.
Jennifer Garner took her time to lose her baby weight the right way – slow and steady. Jennifer Garner is also 40 years old and just had her 3rd child so of course she wouldn’t bounce back after 2 weeks, but after delivering her son Samuel in February, Jen now looks as great as ever. She had a healthy pregnancy, gained a typical amount of weight and took her time to take the weight off. But she didn’t hide out until she was a size 4 again because she has 3 kids and a life to live and movies to promote. For us regular women it was refreshing to see a celebrity who wasn’t a size 2 mere weeks after giving birth. If anything watching Jennifer Garner take her time to lose the baby weight made me like her a lot more.
Hilary Duff is also a great example of a celebrity who is taking the baby weight off slowly but surely. Hilary is looking fabulous after delivering son Luca in March but has taken some heat for not losing her baby weight fast enough, which is a damn shame. Because Hilary was back at the gym within 2 weeks of giving birth, and any new mom who can get her ass to the gym at 2 weeks postpartum doesn’t deserve anyone’s criticism. Anyone who’s had a baby knows that it takes time to take the weight off and I love that Hilary didn’t hide out at home and starve herself until she gets back to her pre-baby weight. In fact she’s been seen regularly going to pilates and yesterday was tweeting about her disdain for ordering salad with dressing on the side. Regular women need to see these types of women on the blogs and in magazines to show that not everyone can wear their jeans out of the hospital right after giving birth.
Which is why Jessica Simpson needs to come out of hiding, now. Jessica gave birth to her daughter on May 1st and signed a lucrative deal with Weight Watchers to be their spokesperson, but has basically gone into hiding since. We’ve literally only seen a few veiled shots of her getting in and out of a car on the way to the gym. She doesn’t even post pictures to twitter. In an interview with USA Today the celeb said of her pregnancy weight gain;
“I let myself indulge in everything I wanted because it was the first time I was ever pregnant, and I wanted to enjoy it. I didn’t know [the weight] didn’t all come off with the baby.”
She also ‘ insisted she wants to show people that it’s not easy to bounce back after having a baby and is determined to lose weight in a healthy way.‘
You know I get it, I really do. I gained a lot of weight with my first pregnancy and it sucks when that baby comes out and you’re still fat, but if she really wants to show that not every celeb bounces right back after pregnancy she needs to stop hiding! I can’t imagine how much she’s torturing herself trying to get to a weight where she wants to be seen in public. Can you imagine living like that day to day, with a brand new baby, wondering if you’re thin enough to be photographed? Losing the baby weight is hard and most regular women struggle with it too, so wouldn’t it be nice for a celebrity to step up and show that they struggle instead of hiding out until they feel like they look acceptable enough to be seen? At this rate the next we’ll see of Jessica Simpson is her in a Weight Watchers commerical with a few select ‘before’ pictures before she walks into the shot looking all fit and perfect and size 4. To be honest I’d buy the whole Weight Watchers schtick a lot more if she’d actually let us see how it’s working for her.
Ladies what do you think – do you think it’s time that Jessica Simpson come out of hiding or should we just leave her alone and she’ll be seen when she’s good and ready?
