If you thought Charlize Theron was good casting as the wicked witch in Snow White and The Huntsman, I think Disney might have hit the nail firmly on the head casting Angelina Jolie as the most wicked of them all in their big screen production of ‘Maleficent’.
Maleficent is the evil witch who curses Sleeping Beauty to death by pricking her finger on a spindle after being annoyed that the King and Queen didn’t invite her to the party to celebrate the baby’s christening, only to have her curse switched up by a faerie who just makes it so she’ll sleep for 100 years. Or until Prince Charming comes knocking (kissing).
Production began on the film on June 13th and we have the upcoming photo to show for it. Personally I think Angie will make a fabulous Maleficent, don’t you? The movie also co-stars Sharlto Copley (“District 9”), Elle Fanning (“Super 8”), Sam Riley (“On the Road”), Imelda Staunton (“Vera Drake”), Miranda Richardson (“The Hours”), Juno Temple (“Atonement”) and Lesley Manville (“Secrets & Lies”).
According to the Disney press release;
This is the untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain, Maleficent, from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” The film reveals the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.
The movie isn’t set for release until March 2014 but we’re already getting a sneak peek. Looks like Disney wants a definite hit with this one. Can’t wait to see more.
