OK so today is the first day of summer vacation and I was sitting at the park with my girlfriends and all our kids when news of Katie Holmes filing for divorce from Tom Cruise hit. The timing is pretty well thought out, no? A Friday just before the 4th of July. Not a coincidence.
Katie’s lawyer released a statement to PEOPLE today saying;
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
In response Tom’s people released their own statement saying;
“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”
TMZ is reporting that Katie has filed for sole custody. Which makes it all make sense now. Because you’ll remember that when Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise split, Nicole left the kids with Tom. No one understood how a mother could basically walk away from her children, and many speculate that the Church was behind it. That the Church made her trade her kids for her own personal freedom. Imagine how terrible a marriage must be if you’re willing to basically walk away from your kids to not be around it anymore? I believe we need to give Katie Holmes a lot more credit than we thought because she doesn’t look willing to leave Suri without one hell of a fight.
I was complaining earlier this week about Katie and her carrying Suri around, and how all we ever see is pictures of Katie with Suri. They’re shopping, they’re getting ice cream, they’re going out for lunch etc, etc, etc. Someone get little Suri a friend! Seems like possibly a well calculated move by a woman who wants the entire world to know that she’s the primary caregiver for her child while her husband is away working on movie set after movie set. Well played Katie Holmes, well played. Lets just hope the Church of Scientology sees it that way.
