Sam Clafin Cast As Finnick Odair In ‘Catching Fire’

sam clafin cast as finnick odair in catching fire

Lionsgate just announced that Sam Clafin will be Finnick Odair in the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire.  My initial reaction was ‘Who the F*ck is Sam Clafin’ and after doing some googling I still don’t know who he is, but I kind of like this casting.  If you’re wondering, Sam Clafin is a British actor and he played the role of William in the Snow White and The Huntsman movie (which I haven’t seen yet).  He was also in one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies – but that’s pretty much it for big Hollywood movies.  He has done a lot of tv mini-series and some regular tv.

This is why I like the casting so much. I like it when they take relative unknown actors (but good actors) and let them become the character.  A lot of people were throwing around names like Ryan Gosling for the role, but I think with actors like that it’s hard to see past who they are in real life and see them as the character they’re playing.  Think about it – it would always be ‘Ryan Gosling playing Finnick Odair’.  Oddly enough my choice for the part, based on how I thought Finnick would look physically, was Chris Hemsworth.  Chris is pictured above with Sam during Comic Con where they promoted SWATH.  This is the only part of the casting I take issue with – because I always imagined Finnick broad and very handsome and blonde.  But then again the one thing that those behind the scenes at The Hunger Games have always done so well is cast just the right people, so I’m looking forward to seeing how Clafin brings Finnick to the big screen.  I’m also really curious now to see who will be cast as Annie.

Thoughts on the casting of Sam Clafin?
