I’m sitting here writing this laughing hysterically to myself because yet another facebook string has started between my friend Ali and a handful of other women all discussing the book Fifty Shades of Grey. Ali hated it and I love it. I love it so so so much. Even though when I read the facebook string (the last string had almost 100 comments) I know that the writing is pretty cheesy and I know that the characters are a bit ridiculous but OMG GUYS I CAN’T PUT IT DOWN!!!
I haven’t been able to read any of my fave bloggers reviews either because I want to write my own before I do, which I hopefully will be able to post tomorrow. But I get it, when you say you didn’t like the books. I get, I really do, I just think you’re crazy and possibly ‘overthinking’ it. Because I stay up late, really late, not able to put the book down in spite of its cheesy dialogue and two dimensional characters – I am a woman obsessed with a fictional character. And I’m not the only one. My girlfriend and I had an entire day long text conversation about Christian Grey the other day. She was in California on a conference and we texted back and forth the entire day laughing about our obsession with a person WHO ISN’T REAL! I can’t explain it ladies.
And now my obsession has turned to casting – specifically who will be cast as Christian Grey. The other day I told you that Ian Somerhalder has thrown his hat into the ring and expressed a huge interest in being Christian Grey, n addition to actor Chris Pine. In an interview with Access Hollywood Alexander Skarsgard has now said he would like to play the dominating Grey. My first reaction to Skarsgard was worse than it was with Somerhalder -God no!
I mean, Skarsgard is OK as Vampire Eric when he’s all serious and brooding, but the minute he smiles he is seriously – um – goofy. And not attractive goofy – just plain dorky goofy. And definitely not Christian Grey super freaking hot goofy! And then there’s the age issue, because Skarsgard just looks too old to be Grey. Because remember, Ana is only 21. Skarsgard would look a bit too creepy I think. And I’ve ruled out Somerhalder because he’s just way too short, too dark, bad, bad hair and not nearly the physical stature that Christian Grey should have. Skarsgard has the build but not the looks. Somerhalder has nothing. That leaves Chris Pine.
So far, between the 3, Chris Pine would get my vote, mostly on the merit of his eyes and his face, which I find quite attractive, sometimes. But not sure he’s tall enough. And sometimes I don’t think he’s attractive but that’s more when he’s a bit bloaty. When he’s lean (and Christian is lean) he’s much more handsome. And yes I think I have spent way too much time thinking about this so stop judging me ok! But it’s important to those of us who love the books that they get the casting just right. Without it they’ll just ruin the character altogether. I promise you I’m wracking my brain to think of who would be a good fit. So for me, so far, I’ll take Pine over Somerhalder and Skarsgard. But I’m not convinced yet that Pine is perfect for Christian Grey.
So let me know – who’s your ideal Christian?

At first I thought you meant Paul Walker not Paul Wesley. Not a Paul Wesley fan (is it bad I don’t want any vampire dudes to get the part?) but I think Paul Walker definitely has the look!

You’re not the first person who has said Bomer to me. Must be something there!

Obviously, there’s no one alive who could play Christian…because there’s no actual living person on earth who is perfect and who causes every woman on earth to melt at the mere sight of him in a pair of jeans from the 1990s. Hahahahahaha.

Obviously Scott Speedman needs to dye his hair and get coloured contacts. Did you see him in Edwin? Perfect-o.

I think Christian Bale would be perfect as Christian Grey, especially because I kept noticing references to Batman (I thought). However I don’t think he is even a contender…too bad!

I am in favour of James Scott playing the roll of Christian. He plays EJ on Days of our Lives

If they want to go the vampire actor route, then Stefan or Edward! That’s the combo of Christian that I had in my head when I read it :0)

I totally agree it can’t be Skarsgard but not Pine either! I LOVED all 3 books (take-out for a week while I was reading!) and there has to be the right people cast in the movie or I can’t watch! I am all over Somerhalder…love his eyes and strong features and could totally see it.

I am midway thru book 1 – not obsessed yet but the story is getting hotter….
I would say yes to somerhalder, speedman, and bomer, no to wesley, pine, skarsgard what do you think of Mark-Paul Gosselaar?

Gosselaar is too old. So many of them are too old, because Christian is only 27. Somerhalder is too slight I think. Not imposing enough. I think I might spend far too much time thinking about this:)

I think that Christian Bale would be an excellent choice! Has nothing to do with his name being Christian, but I just think he has “the look”. Google him. A topless photo will come up. Tell me that this wouldn’t make the most perfect Christian Grey!!!!

I think Skarsgard has Dom written all over him…and he definitely has the presence to play Christian….but I have to agree about the smile…

You’ve hit the nail on the head with Chris Pine, my dear! A friend of mine and I have started a Facebook page making a plug for him to be cast as Christian! Yes, I’ve become obsessed
http://www.facebook.com/ChrisforChristian It’s hard to look at any of these other options! And please, for the love of God, don’t let it be someone who is currently playing a vampire!!

OMG! I 100% agree with EVERYTHING you’ve said. For me, it’s ALWAYS been Chris Pine… If it’s anyone else, I’ll be so disappointed! (How lame is that?!) Definitely don’t want any previous vampires… Aren’t we over that phase yet?

1st choice tie: Ian Somerhalder or Chris Hemsworth…ladies these men are pretty sexy and I could say that it would light my fire to see either one of them in old jeans from the 90′s… lol
2nd choice: Eric Winter
I think Charlize Theron should play Ms. Robinson too… ; )

I am reading the first one and I can’t see anyone but Gale Harold- more specifically Brian Kinney! I know he’s too old, but so so perfect in my opinion. He will stay in my head as I continue the read

alex pettyfr…….hes got those sharp features and his body………..nd lets not forget his perfect just fucked hair
and u should really consider paul wesley he could be perfect with his face build and hair .his role in TVD is quite similar to what he’d have to portray as fifty i.e self abhorrent, mercurial, and he could justify all aspects of grey!
