OK really this movie had me at Ryan Gosling, but I was excited to see the trailer for ‘The Gangster Squad’ today because it actually looks really good. And I’m also looking forward to seeing a non-superhero movie this summer.
The Gangster Squad is set in the ’40′s and from what I can gather from the trailer Nick Nolte is the big police boss and James Brolin is tasked to form his own ‘Gangster Squad’ of rogue police officers who’s goal is to take down crime boss Sean Penn. It looks very ‘Donnie Brasco meets Casino meets Dragnet’ to me.
Aside from Brolin, Nolte, Gosling and Penn the movie also stars Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pena and Anthony Mackie as well as Emma Stone. Which is one helluva cast. I also like that my husband will want to see the movie for the shoot em’up aspect while I will go see it for the Ryan Gosling aspect. Win/Win really.
