Yesterday we saw the first teaser trailer for Iron Man 3 starring Robert Downey Jr. and today Marvel/Disney released the first full trailer for the much anticipated sequel. I’ve watched this 3 times so far and I’m still processing it. Does it look great? – Of course it does. It has a bit of a ‘Dark Knight Rises‘ feel to it though – not quite as apocalyptic but still very daunting. There’s a lot of blowing up things and the very ominous Guy Pearce voice over stating ‘Hero’s, there is no such thing’. Obviously there is an epic battle coming and Tony Stark has to find out where and how Iron Man fits into the world and how he fits into Iron Man. Very much a battle of ” does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”
What I’m missing here is the trademark RDJ/Tony Stark wit and sharp tongue. I’m sure that’s present, I just wish they had chosen to show us that in the trailer. I can watch a variety of superhero movies but what makes Iron Man so good is Robert Downey Jr. It’s his charisma and his presence and his ability to command the screen. I like that we’ll get to see more of Tony and Pepper Potts’ (Gwyneth Paltrow) relationship, but I think the trailer could have been better if we just saw a bit more classic Tony Stark. I’ll still be first in line to watch it when it’s released May 3rd, but I wanted more out of the trailer. Check it out and let me know what you think.
